Abbey Road Studios Hosts First-Ever Rave Curated by Soulwax
Abbey Road Studios, the world-renowned London recording venue famously associated with The Beatles and numerous other legendary artists, is hosting its first-ever rave event. Titled ‘Abbey Road After Hours,’ the late-night party is curated by Belgian electronic duo Soulwax, composed of brothers David and Stephen Dewaele. The event marks a significant departure from the studio’s traditional role as a recording space, inviting 340 fans to dance inside the iconic Studio 1.
Interest in the event far exceeded capacity, with around 4,000 people attempting to secure tickets through a hotline system inspired by the underground rave culture of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Although the venue and schedule are more structured than early rave gatherings, the organizers promise an authentic party atmosphere. The event will conclude at 1am, and the entire experience is being filmed for those unable to attend.
Soulwax, known for their innovative contributions to electronic music as performers, DJs (2manydjs), producers, and creators of the DEEWEE label and Despacio sound system, have been working at Abbey Road in the days leading up to the event. They recorded new material and cut it directly to vinyl to debut during the rave.
Mark Robertson, Abbey Road’s director of marketing and creative, described the event as part of the studio’s ongoing effort to innovate while honoring its creative legacy. While future raves have not been confirmed, organizers have not ruled out similar events. The initiative reflects Abbey Road’s willingness to blend its historic identity with contemporary music culture.
