Blondie announces release of new album later this year, following drummer Clem Burke’s passing

Blondie is set to release a new album later this year, following the death of the band’s drummer, Clem Burke, who passed away in April after a battle with cancer. Guitarist Chris Stein confirmed the release, stating the album will be available in the ‘last quarter’ of 2025. The forthcoming album, a follow-up to 2017’s ‘Pollinator,’ was produced by Grammy-winning John Congleton. Despite the tragic loss, the album features Burke’s contributions, as Stein revealed that Burke ‘played the whole thing.’ The band had already planned to release the album in 2025 before Burke’s passing, and while an official release date is yet to be confirmed, the timing is expected to be toward the end of the year. The band’s future in live performances is uncertain, as Debbie Harry, the face of the band, has expressed doubts about performing without Clem and Chris Stein, who is no longer able to tour due to health issues. However, the group continues to honor the legacy of Burke, who was described as the ‘heartbeat of Blondie.’ The album will also feature contributions from Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock, who had previously recorded parts for the project.
