Egyptians call for cancellation of Scorpions concert over alleged support for Israel

Social media users in Egypt are calling for the cancellation of a Scorpions concert scheduled for October 15, 2025, in Cairo, accusing the German rock band of supporting Israel. This backlash comes after the band’s October 2023 post expressing shock over the Hamas-led attack on Israel and showing concern for Israeli captives. Critics argue that the band has ignored the plight of Palestinians suffering under Israeli bombardment in Gaza. Some users pointed to past incidents where Scorpions members were seen waving the Israeli flag during concerts. The controversy has sparked discussions about whether hosting the concert is an act of ‘normalization’ between Egypt and Israel, with many Egyptians rejecting any form of normalization despite the peace treaty between the two nations. Some critics also questioned the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism’s involvement in organizing the event, especially given the strong sentiments against Israeli support in the region. This concert is part of Scorpions’ world tour, marking their 60th anniversary, and it would be their second performance in Egypt, following a 2005 concert. The event is co-organized by Live Nation Entertainment and Egypt’s Administrative Capital for Urban Development.
