First Asian edition of Eurovision to be held in Bangkok later this year
The Eurovision Song Contest is set to launch its first-ever Asian edition in Bangkok, Thailand, later this year. The event will feature at least ten countries, including Thailand, South Korea, the Philippines, and Vietnam, with additional participants expected to be confirmed ahead of the November finale. Contest director Martin Green emphasised the historical significance of this expansion, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the original Eurovision Song Contest. Bangkok was selected as the host city due to its vibrant cultural scene and status as a hub for music and festivities. Organisers have acknowledged the potential for geopolitical tensions to emerge, reflecting the controversies occasionally seen in the European version, given the complex political dynamics within the Asian region. This expansion represents a major step for the Eurovision brand, extending its reach beyond Europe and showcasing a diverse range of musical talent across the continent.
