Thousands of Volunteers Tackle Glastonbury Festival Clean-Up

The Glastonbury Festival has officially concluded for another year, with thousands of attendees heading home after US pop star Olivia Rodrigo closed the festival. As the festival wrapped up, a significant clean-up operation began to prepare for the upcoming fallow year in 2026. Volunteers have already started picking up thousands of discarded items, including tents, camping gear, and food containers, with much of it left behind by festivalgoers. While many are now encouraged to take all their belongings home, some festival-goers were under the misconception that tents would be collected for charity. The festival has urged people to leave their campsites tidy and suggested early departures to avoid the expected high temperatures reaching 31°C (88°F). Volunteers, including long-time litter pickers and some dressed in humorous outfits, are working under challenging conditions to clear the site efficiently. Glastonbury organisers are already planning improvements for the festival’s return in 2027, using the fallow year to ensure the grounds are rested and ready for the next event. This year’s clean-up is being tackled with a focus on safety, as the festival has taken precautions in light of the ongoing amber heat health alert in the region.
