JD Twitch, influential DJ from Optimo duo, passes away at 57

JD Twitch, born Keith McIvor, has passed away at the age of 57 after being diagnosed with an untreatable brain tumour earlier this year. A prominent figure in the Scottish music scene, McIvor was one half of the pioneering DJ duo Optimo, alongside Jonnie Wilkes (JG Wilkes). Together, they revolutionized the Glasgow club scene, with their Sunday night event at the Sub Club running from 1997 to 2010. The duo’s eclectic musical approach, blending punk, new wave, electroclash, and dance music, made Optimo one of the most influential club nights in the world. McIvor also worked as a successful remixer, contributing to major bands like Franz Ferdinand, Róisín Murphy, and Florence + the Machine. He founded Optimo Music and contributed to various music projects, including soundtracks and his solo alias, Tomorrow the Rain Will Fall Upwards. Despite his declining health, McIvor continued to inspire those around him with his passion for music, creativity, and positive change. His death leaves a void in the electronic and dance music world, but his legacy will remain through his significant contributions to the global music scene.
