Mark David Chapman, the man who killed John Lennon, denied parole again

Mark David Chapman, who murdered John Lennon in 1980, has been denied parole for the 14th time. The 70-year-old was convicted for fatally shooting Lennon outside his Manhattan apartment while he was with his wife, Yoko Ono. Chapman had previously asked Lennon for an autograph on the album ‘Double Fantasy’ earlier that day. The incident occurred on December 8, 1980, when Lennon was 40 years old. Chapman was arrested shortly after the murder, found sitting nearby reading ‘The Catcher in the Rye’. Chapman, who is currently serving a 20-years-to-life sentence at Green Haven Correctional Facility, has expressed remorse during parole hearings, acknowledging the gravity of his crime and his desire for fame. His next parole hearing will be held in 2027. Despite his remorse, the parole board continues to deny his release, citing the severity of his crime and the need for continued incarceration.
