Julio Iglesias Denies Sexual Abuse and Human Trafficking Allegations from Former Employees

Spanish singer Julio Iglesias, aged 82, has publicly denied serious allegations of sexual abuse, human trafficking for forced labour, servitude, and violations of workers’ rights made by two former domestic employees. The accusations stem from a three-year joint investigation by Spanish outlet elDiario.es and Univision Noticias, published recently, detailing claims from the women (using pseudonyms Rebeca and Laura) who worked at Iglesias’ residences in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas for about 10 months in 2021. The women, described as young Latin American individuals in vulnerable economic and social situations, allege they faced coercive environments involving inappropriate touching, humiliation, excessive working hours without contracts or rest days, phone monitoring, and restrictions on leaving the properties. The complaint was formally filed earlier in January 2026 with Spain’s High Court (Audiencia Nacional) by the advocacy group Women’s Link Worldwide, with support from Amnesty International in some reports. Prosecutors have initiated preliminary proceedings, though the case remains under secrecy rules with no further details released by the court. In response, Iglesias posted a statement in Spanish on Instagram, bearing his signature, firmly rejecting the claims: he denied ever abusing, coercing, or disrespecting any woman, labelled the accusations ‘completely false,’ expressed deep sadness over them, and noted that supportive messages had provided him comfort. His record label, Sony, has not commented. Iglesias, one of the best-selling Latin artists globally with over 300 million records sold, is the father of singer Enrique Iglesias.
