Julio Iglesias Responds to Allegations of Sexual Assault by Former Employees

Spanish singer Julio Iglesias, 82, has publicly denied allegations of sexual assault made by two former female employees who worked for him in the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic. The women, reportedly a domestic worker and a physiotherapist, claimed that Iglesias created a coercive and abusive environment, engaging in sexual and psychological mistreatment during their ten-month employment in 2021. In response, Iglesias posted on Instagram, asserting that the accusations were completely false and expressing sadness over what he called malicious attacks on his character.

The complaint, filed with Spain’s National Court on January 5, includes charges of sexual assault and human trafficking, as the alleged crimes occurred outside Spanish territory. Advocacy organizations such as Women’s Link Worldwide and Amnesty International have stated that the conduct described could qualify as human trafficking for forced labor and crimes against sexual freedom. According to supporting evidence reported by media outlets including elDiario.es and Univision, the women’s claims are substantiated by documents, photographs, phone records, text messages, and medical reports. Former employees have also described a hostile work environment at Iglesias’s properties.

While some of Iglesias’s acquaintances have dismissed the allegations as false, the case is currently under investigation by Spanish judicial authorities.
