Irish rap group Kneecap cancels US tour due to pending London court hearing

Irish rap trio Kneecap have announced the cancellation of their upcoming United States tour as a result of ongoing legal proceedings involving one of its members. Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, who performs under the stage name Mo Chara, faces charges linked to allegedly displaying a Hezbollah-supporting flag during a London performance in 2023. The 27-year-old artist has denied the allegations, and the band has emphasized that it does not support Hamas or Hezbollah. The case, which began earlier this year, has now been adjourned until 26 September, placing the next court appearance too close to the start of their scheduled North American tour.

In a statement published on social media, the group expressed regret over the decision, highlighting that all 15 October tour dates in the US had already sold out. They assured fans that once the legal matter is resolved, they intend to return with a larger tour. Despite the setback in the United States, Kneecap confirmed that their Canadian concerts in Vancouver and Toronto will proceed as planned.

The Belfast-based group recently performed in Paris and continues to build an international following, particularly noted for their politically charged lyrics and use of the Irish language. The case remains under review, and its outcome will directly influence the band’s ability to fulfill its international touring commitments.
