Kneecap Performs Surprise London Gig After Member Faces Terror Charge

Irish-language hip-hop group Kneecap performed a surprise gig at the 100 Club in central London just one day after a member, Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh (aka Mo Chara), was charged with a terror-related offence. The charge stems from an incident on November 21, 2024, at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, where Ó hAnnaidh allegedly displayed a Hezbollah flag, a proscribed organisation under UK law. Kneecap denies any support for Hezbollah or Hamas, claiming the video evidence was taken out of context. Despite the controversy, their event at the 100 Club quickly sold out, with fans securing tickets within 90 seconds. The Metropolitan Police maintained a presence at the venue to ensure safety but reported no incidents or arrests. The performance was scheduled ahead of the group’s headline appearance at the Wide Awake Festival in Brockwell Park. Kneecap, known for their politically charged lyrics and use of the Irish language, declared via social media that they would vigorously contest the charges. Ó hAnnaidh is set to appear in court on June 18. The event has drawn attention both for its political implications and for its cultural significance within the Irish music scene.
