Richard Darbyshire, Lead Singer of Living In A Box, Passes Away at 65
Richard Darbyshire, the former lead singer of the 80s pop band Living In A Box, has died at the age of 65. The band, formed in Sheffield, made a global impact with their 1987 hit single ‘Living In A Box’ and scored two more Top 10 hits in the UK. Darbyshire’s soulful voice was especially memorable on their ballad ‘Room In Your Heart’. After leaving the band in 1989 due to artistic differences, he pursued a solo career and wrote for artists such as Lisa Stansfield and Jennifer Rush. Darbyshire passed away on November 10, 2023, though no cause of death has been revealed. His former bandmates paid tribute, highlighting his vocal and songwriting talents. The singer, who had always been reluctant to embrace the fame that came with pop stardom, was happiest creating music in the studio. Darbyshire is survived by his wife, vocal coach Sonia Jones. The band had reformed in 2016 and is currently on tour with a new lead singer, Bryan Chambers.
