Brothers Face Murder Charges for Killing South African Rapper AKA

Two brothers, Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande, have been formally charged with the murder of South African rapper Kiernan Forbes, known as AKA. The brothers, extradited from Eswatini, face additional charges related to the killing of AKA’s close friend, celebrity chef Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, who was also killed in the same attack. The incident, which took place outside a restaurant in Durban in 2023, shocked the nation. Forbes, an award-winning hip-hop artist, was in Durban to perform during his birthday celebrations when he and Motsoane were gunned down in what police described as a coordinated hit. The Ndimande brothers are also charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and other crimes. The case has drawn significant attention in South Africa, where the high murder rate makes such acts of violence particularly alarming. The brothers will stand trial alongside five others already in custody for their roles in the killings.
