At 93, Mary Ann Cummins is still an active music teacher, teaching at multiple schools and as a private piano instructor in Santa Monica. She began her teaching career in 1971, when she was recruited by Paul Cummins to teach at Crossroads School, and the two later married. Despite her age, Mary Ann shows no signs of slowing down, bringing enthusiasm and energy to students of all ages. She employs the Orff Schulwerk approach to engage young children with music through song, dance, and movement. Her teaching goes beyond just music, incorporating life lessons and personal growth, emphasizing that music connects us to something spiritual. Mary Ann’s dedication has earned her recognition, including being inducted into the Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame. Her students, including those who’ve gone on to elite music schools, credit her with shaping their lives and careers.
