Rick Davies, Supertramp Co-Founder and Songwriter, Dies After Battle with Cancer

Rick Davies, one of the founding members of the legendary British rock band Supertramp, has passed away at the age of 81 after a long battle with cancer. Known for writing and performing hits such as ‘Bloody Well Right’ and ‘Goodbye Stranger,’ Davies was integral to Supertramp’s transformation from a progressive rock group to a globally recognized band. The band’s rise to fame began with their album ‘Crime of the Century’ and peaked with the iconic ‘Breakfast in America’ in 1979. After co-founding the band in 1970 with Roger Hodgson, the duo’s distinct musical styles propelled Supertramp to stardom. However, tensions between the two led to Hodgson’s departure in 1983, leaving Davies to continue the band for more than two decades. Despite health challenges, including a diagnosis of multiple myeloma in 2015, Davies continued performing up until 2022. His death marks the end of an era for Supertramp fans, who will always remember his unique voice and significant contributions to rock music.
