Slick Rick Returns with ‘Victory’: A Groundbreaking Cinematic Visual Album After 26 Years
Hip-hop legend Slick Rick, renowned for his storytelling prowess, has made a historic return with ‘Victory,’ his first album in 26 years and a pioneering cinematic visual album. Released on June 13, 2025, ‘Victory’ marks Rick’s debut on Idris Elba’s 7 Wallace label and is a collaborative project with Nas’ Mass Appeal under the ‘Legend Has It’ series. The album, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, stands out for its visual storytelling, chronicling Slick Rick’s formative years in London and the Bronx, and offering a vivid time-capsule of his journey to hip-hop royalty. Executive produced by Idris Elba and Nas, and directed by acclaimed British-Nigerian filmmaker Meji Alabi, the project features contributions from Q-Tip, Young Guru, and UK rapper Giggs.
