Soulja Boy arrested on weapons charges following traffic stop

US rapper Soulja Boy, born DeAndre Cortez Way, was arrested in Los Angeles on Sunday morning on suspicion of weapons possession. The incident took place around 2:35am local time in the Melrose neighborhood when the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) carried out a traffic stop. During the stop, officers reportedly discovered that Soulja Boy, a passenger in the vehicle, was allegedly in possession of a firearm. The rapper, best known for his 2007 hit ‘Crank That (Soulja Boy)’, was arrested on charges of possession of a firearm by a felon. This arrest comes on the heels of other legal troubles, including a civil case in which Soulja Boy was ordered to pay $4.25 million to a woman who accused him of sexual battery and abuse. Soulja Boy, 35, has denied the accusations, claiming the relationship was consensual, but the jury found him liable for sexual battery, assault, and gender violence.
