Joy of Jazz 2026 Line-up Highlights International Stars and South African Jazz Heritage

The 27th edition of the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 25 to 26 September 2026. The festival continues to bridge generations and geographies, celebrating both global and local jazz influences. International headliners include legendary Beninese musician Angélique Kidjo, who brings decades of cross-genre and cross-border experience, and Kamasi Washington, making his Joy of Jazz debut with his expansive, contemporary jazz style that fuses orchestration, spirituality, and hip-hop. Local artists anchor the programme, featuring Thandiswa Mazwai, Judith Sephuma, McCoy Mrubata, Khaya Mahlangu, and Ndabo Zulu. Their performances honour jazz traditions while contributing to an evolving South African musical heritage, with tributes to icons such as Hugh Masekela, Kippie Moeketsi, and Busi Mhlongo. The festival also spotlights emerging talent through the 2026 Standard Bank Young Artist Award winners Gabi Motuba and Manana. Across four stages, themed programming ensures diversity and innovation: the Dinaledi Stage mixes local and international acts, the Diphala Stage highlights women-led performances, the Conga Stage emphasises rhythm-driven shows, and the Mbira Stage blends neo-soul and spoken word. The festival also marks historical milestones, including 50 years since the Soweto Uprising and 70 years since the 1956 Women’s March, incorporating these commemorations into the artistic programming. Collaboration, reinterpretation, and legacy are at the heart of this year’s Joy of Jazz.
