Rare Doors memorabilia, including letters and signed album, to be auctioned in Surrey

A unique collection of previously unseen memorabilia from the legendary US rock band The Doors is set to be auctioned in Surrey. The archive includes letters, invoices, and documents that provide a detailed insight into the band’s efforts to establish themselves in Europe during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Among the items is a signed copy of the ‘Morrison Hotel’ album, autographed by all four band members, released just a year before the death of lead singer Jim Morrison in 1971. The auction, held by Ewbank’s Auctions in Woking on 26 February, lists an upper guide price of £10,500. Notable items include correspondence from the band’s former publicist Leon Barnard, who helped promote The Doors in Sweden and Denmark, as well as recording studio invoices, such as a bill for a damaged microphone. Denise Kelly from Ewbank’s Auctions highlighted that the documents offer vivid details of the band’s creative process and provide rare insight into their transition from an unsigned Los Angeles club act to a major label recording artist. The archive captures the spirit of the era and gives fans and collectors a chance to own an important piece of rock history.
