BTS reunites as all members complete South Korea’s military service

South Korea’s mandatory military service has officially concluded for all seven members of BTS, marking a major milestone as the globally renowned K‑pop band prepares to reunite. The final member, Suga (Min Yoon‑gi), completed his alternative social service duties on June 18, with an official discharge on June 21 after previous shoulder surgery led to his assignment outside the active military. Earlier this month, RM and V were discharged on June 10, followed by Jimin and Jung Kook on June 11. Jin and J‑Hope completed their service in June 2024 and October 2024 respectively. During their hiatus since 2022, the members have pursued successful solo projects: RM released a second solo album, J‑Hope toureda globally, Suga performed under his “Agust D” persona, and others released music and starred in shows. The group’s agency, HYBE (formerly Big Hit Entertainment), noted that BTS intends to reunite later this year and analysts predict a possible world tour in 2026. Public debate over possible exemptions ended in 2022 when BTS chose to fulfill conscription obligations despite being eligible for deferment. Their return holds significant cultural importance as pioneers who brought K‑pop to the global stage via hits like “DNA” and “Dynamite,” activism at the UN, and multiple Grammy nominations. With all members now freed from duty, fans worldwide eagerly await a full-group comeback and new music in the near future.
