Wynne Evans Departs BBC Radio Wales Following Strictly Come Dancing Incident

Wynne Evans, known for his role in the Go Compare adverts and as a BBC Radio Wales host, has confirmed he is leaving his BBC show after his contract was not renewed. This comes after a controversial comment made during the launch of the Strictly Come Dancing live tour in December, which he later apologized for, calling it ‘inappropriate and unacceptable.’ The incident, which involved a sexualised remark and sending a sex toy to a fellow contestant, received media attention and led to viewer discomfort, although some involved dismissed it as misunderstood or exaggerated.

Evans, who hosted the mid-morning show since 2016, described it as more than just a job. He shared on Instagram that he was ‘gutted’ but plans to launch a new online radio show via a mobile app. He also commented on other awkward moments during the Strictly series, including an incident involving professional dancer Katya Jones, which was later clarified as a joke.

Despite addressing the controversies, Evans admitted that the experience on Strictly wasn’t right for him. The BBC confirmed there are no current plans to work with him further. In addition to his media presence, Evans is also a trained opera singer and has released successful classical music albums.
