Ed Sheeran surprises fans with impromptu performance at Wexford pub during Irish festival

Ed Sheeran recently surprised fans at the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann music and arts festival in Wexford, Ireland, by playing a mix of original songs and traditional Irish tunes. The surprise performance took place at The Sky and The Ground pub, where Sheeran jammed with Irish bands Amble, BIIRD, Beoga, and Aaron Rowe. During the event, Sheeran, who has Irish roots through his father from Belfast, also made sure fans who couldn’t get into the pub didn’t miss out by performing an acoustic version of his hit ‘Perfect’ outside. The Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, one of the largest Irish music festivals, is set to be held in Belfast in 2026. The event also featured Sheeran and the folk band BIIRD performing classic Irish songs like ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’ and ‘Raglan Road,’ along with a rendition of ‘The Parting Glass’ that brought the crowd together. Beoga, Sheeran’s long-time Irish trad band, has previously collaborated with him on songs like ‘Galway Girl.’ Sheeran’s deep connection to Irish culture was evident throughout the event, as he expressed a love for traditional Irish music. This intimate gathering of artists showcased the rich cultural exchange at the heart of Irish music festivals.
