Dizzee Rascal’s Free Margate Beach Concert Cancelled Due to Safety and Planning Concerns

A free beachfront concert by renowned rapper Dizzee Rascal, scheduled to take place in Margate, Kent, was cancelled just hours before it was set to begin. Dizzee Rascal, whose real name is Dylan Kwabena Mills and who was awarded an MBE in 2020, had promoted the event on social media, inviting fans to join him for an impromptu performance on the Margate Steps. However, the event was abruptly called off by the Margate Summer Series promoters, citing a scheduling conflict due to filming in Margate that day. Local authorities, including the Margate Central ward councillor and former mayor Rob Yates, expressed concerns about the lack of coordination with the council and the absence of necessary safety measures such as police, medical staff, and proper planning, especially given the event’s seaside location. Dreamland, the venue’s usual concert organiser, clarified they were not involved and had requested the event’s immediate cancellation. Both Thanet District Council and Kent Police were informed of the situation.
