Manchester Pride Performers and Suppliers Report Delayed Payments

Several performers and businesses involved in Manchester Pride have reported not being paid for their work at the event held at the end of August. Saki Yew, known from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK 2024, is among those still waiting for payment, describing frustration over lack of communication from organisers. She emphasizes that performers dedicate weeks of rehearsals and effort and expect timely payment, which is typically processed within two weeks for similar engagements. In addition, businesses that provided services, such as backstage work and signage, also report outstanding payments, with some pursuing legal action through small claims court. Manchester Pride, run by an independent charity, issued a statement on Instagram saying it is seeking legal and financial advice to determine the best way forward. The statement also asked the public to treat staff with kindness and respect, clarifying that the board is responsible for decisions. Organisers hope to provide more information by 22 October. Manchester Pride, one of the UK’s largest LGBT events, features live performances and ticketed experiences, with headline acts including Leigh-Anne, Nelly Furtado, and Olly Alexander. The situation has raised concerns among performers and suppliers about fair treatment and timely compensation for their contributions.
