Paul McCartney’s Photographs of The Beatles to be Exhibited in London

A new exhibition showcasing rare photographs taken by Paul McCartney during the early days of Beatlemania will open in central London at the Gagosian Gallery. The exhibition, titled ‘Rearview Mirror: Liverpool–London–Paris,’ runs from August 28 to October 4 and features images captured by McCartney on his 35mm Pentax camera. The collection offers a glimpse into pivotal moments in the Beatles’ rise to fame, including their 1963 UK tour, their residency at the Olympia Theatre in Paris, and backstage scenes at iconic venues like the Lewisham Odeon and London Palladium. The free exhibit also includes intimate moments such as a self-portrait of McCartney in an attic room at his then-girlfriend Jane Asher’s home, where he is said to have conceived the melody for ‘Yesterday.’ Some of the photographs have been remastered from original negatives thought to be lost for over fifty years, with a few presented as contact sheets. The exhibition gives fans an unprecedented view of the band’s early years and the moments that shaped their legacy.
