US musician and songwriter Linda Perry, best known as the frontwoman of 4 Non Blondes and for composing major hits for numerous artists, is set to be honoured with a special international award at the 71st Ivor Novello Awards. The 61-year-old, who wrote the band’s 1990s hit ‘What’s Up?’ as well as successful tracks such as Christina Aguilera’s ‘Beautiful’, Pink’s ‘Get the Party Started’, and songs for Gwen Stefani, Adele, and others, will be recognised for her profound influence on the UK music industry. The announcement coincides with the release of an Amazon Music mini-documentary exploring the creation of ‘Beautiful’. Perry expressed her gratitude, noting the honour of joining past celebrated artists. Tom Gray, chairman of The Ivors Academy, praised her distinctive songwriting style marked by defiance, vulnerability, and honesty, while chief executive Roberto Neri highlighted her lasting impact on global popular culture. Perry has also recently announced her first solo album in 25 years, Let It Die Here, due for release on 8 May. The awards ceremony will take place on 21 May at Grosvenor House in London. This recognition follows Spanish artist Rosalia being named international songwriter of the year. Perry’s career spans performing with her alternative rock band and penning enduring pop anthems that continue to resonate with audiences worldwide.
