Billy Joel Suspends Tour to Focus on Treatment for Brain Condition

Billy Joel, the iconic 76-year-old singer-songwriter known as ‘The Piano Man’, has canceled all 17 of his upcoming concerts in North America and England after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). According to his team, recent performances have worsened symptoms such as balance issues, vision and hearing problems, prompting doctors to advise against further touring. Joel is currently undergoing specialized physical therapy and focusing on his recovery.

NPH is a brain disorder caused by excess cerebrospinal fluid buildup, which can impair memory, movement, and concentration. Although it mimics dementia, the condition can sometimes be reversed, especially with early diagnosis and surgical intervention using a shunt to drain the fluid. Joel’s last concert was in February 2025, during which he suffered a minor onstage fall. A month later, he had already announced a break for medical reasons, though it was not clear at the time if it was related to NPH.

Despite not releasing new pop material since 1993, Joel has remained a highly popular live performer, recently concluding a historic residency at Madison Square Garden. Refunds will be issued for all affected shows. Joel expressed gratitude to fans and reiterated his commitment to health and recovery.
